General English Course

General English

General English courses are available from Beginners to Advanced levels, on a morning or afternoon timetable. The courses aim to improve the students' English ability in all the skills (reading, writing, listening and speaking), as well as developing their grammar and vocabulary. A strong emphasis is placed on communication, and our teachers help their students to increase in confidence when using English in day-to-day situations.

General English

Course Options

  You can study a 21-hour timetable, consisting of 3 daily teaching slots. (Monday to Thursday 9.00am – 10.30am , 10.45am – 12.15pm, 12.45pm – 2.15pm, except Friday when students finish at 12.15)

  You can study a 15-hour morning timetable, joining the Semi-intensive course for 2 teaching slots per day. (Monday to Thursday 10.45am – 12.15pm, 12.45pm – 2.15pm, Friday 9.00am – 10.30am, 10.45am – 12.15pm)

  You can study a 15-hour afternoon timetable, consisting of 2 daily teaching slots (Monday – Friday 2.30pm – 4.00pm, 4.15pm – 5.45pm)

  You can study a 4-hour timetable in the evening (2 evenings per week 6.30pm – 8.30pm)

  You can study a minimum of 7.5 hours and join Full-time 1 or 2. Subject to availability.

  If you are an Au-Pair and wish to study with us, you must study for a minimum of 7.5 hours and join students on the Full-time 1 course. Alternatively you can study on our Part-time evening timetable.


Course Aims

  • To provide the language skills you need for life, work and study in the UK
  • To practice and develop your speaking reading, writing and listening skills
  • To increase your use of  vocabulary and grammar
  • To give you the help, support and excellent advice on how to learn English more quickly

Course Information

  • Each level lasts 12 weeks and ends with an exam, report and certificate. Students are welcome to join at any time during the term and will be helped to catch up.
  • You follow a main coursebook plus extra materials to suit the needs of your class.
  • You keep a personal portfolio to help you record your learning more effectively.  
  • You have a tutorial every four weeks, (or whenever you request), to decide on regular learning aims so that you improve faster.  
  • You have small weekly tests and formal monthly tests to help you focus on your studies.  
  • You have 2 teachers to help you understand different accents.  
  • You will receive regular progress reports and an attendance certificate at the end of your course.

  • Evidence of previous English language study
  • NSL Placement test and induction 
  • Evidence of correct immigration status

Course Aims

  • To provide a range of skills useful in all types of situations.
  • To practice the 4 skills of reading, writing, listening and speaking focussing on problem areas.
  • To increase your confidence in the use of English language for specific purposes.
  • To give students the chance to develop skills and abilities in IELTS training sessions, Business English classes, Computer training sessions, Grammar sessions and more.

Course Information

This course combines with the General English Semi Intensive course (course A) and along with general language skills you will have the opportunity to select electives that suit your needs and will help you to prepare for your future studies. The chosen electives will be taught in the afternoon and our Academic Management team will design the classes, the aim being to personalize the classes for the students attending them.
